Easterhouse Panthers 26 Edinburgh Eagles 38
Eagles maintained their 100% winning start to 2010 but they made hard work of a very spirited and improved Easterhouse side. Eagles were still missing Andy Grodysnki through digestive trouble, and Richard Knight and Roddy McKenzie were also on the injured list, with Mike Wallace missing due to work commitments..
The did however welcome back Club Captain Giles Lomax aswell as Scotland Cap John Cox to a side which continued to look a little lacking in terms of experience.
It was Cox who made the breakthrough with some powerful play down the middle as his try was converted by Ross Grady. Chris Graham, whos game was cruelly cut short due to a broken collarbone, managed to get his name on the scoresheet before his injury, with Grady adding the extras again.
It was all too familiar for Eagles however, as they took the foot off the pedal to let the Panthers add a score just before half time to leave the Eagles 12-4 up at half time.
It was the Panthers who started the 2nd half with a bang however, as they scored the first try of the half, but this acted as a kick start for Eagles who then scored 3 in a row through Lomax, Rory McLeod and Ashley Carroll, with only one try converted by Grady.
It was frustrating stuff for Eagles coach Angus McNab however, as this good work was undone as Eagles let in the Panthers for 2 scores of their own, both converted by David Crangle.
With the scores at 26-20, Nick Broere kicked for Eagles and as he looked to gather his own kick 5m out for a certain score, was taken out the game by Panthers fulback and Scotland A hopeful Scott Wilson who was correctly shown the yellow card from the referee.
Eagles kicked on from there, as Carroll added his 2nd score of the game, and Broere eventually got his try after a great break from John Cox. Grady converting both to leave the eagles 38-20 up with minutes to play.
It was another Scotland A hopeful in Chad McGlane who was to complete the scoring for the day, and Crangle added the extras to finish the game.
Eagles have a free week next week, and coach McNab knows there is a lot of work to be done before the next game as eagles have yet to look like living up to the high standards set in previous years.
