Improved Eagles Win Against Students
Edinburgh Eagles 40 Riverside College 4

Eagles put in an accomplished display against the students from Widness, to run out comfortable winners and limit the visitors to only one score. They welcomed back Scotland A Internationals Andy Grodynski and Mike Wallace and both were to have a big say in the outcome of the game. Eagles were rocked by the news that Richard Knights season appears to be over before it started, and hope that he manages to get himself fit for the seasons run in.

It took Eagles around 10 minutes to open the scoring, as both teams started the match physically, but Wallace eventually got the ball down after a penalty was awarded inside the students 10m. Grodysnki converting the extras.

Eagles added further tries with Callum Cockburn and Ross Grady touching down, but the students managed to work in their only try of the game inbetween, with poor Eagles defence off a scrum. leaving the Eagles 18-4 up at half time.

The 2nd half was to be Eagles half however, as they produced a professional display against the enthousiastic and conditioned students, who still always looked a threat and if not for some excellent goalline defence would have added to their score. Stuart Henderson, Rory Macleod and Roddy McKenzie all felt the physical presence of the students, who put in some massive hits.

It was Eagles keeping the scoreline ticking however, as Wallace added to his first half try, and then Callum Sinclair opened his Eagles account after a great break from Cockburn and captain Giles Lomax. Grodysnki added a try of his own after collecting a rebound from his kick before Lomax completed the scoring and Grodysnki missed his only kick.

Coach Angus McNab will be happier with this display in comparison to the Easterhouse performance, but will be hoping that this will just be the start of the improving to be done.

Cox steps up for Scotland
Edinburgh Eagles' prop forward John Cox is the latest Eagles player to enter the realm of top flight rugby league. John received his call up to Steve McCormack's squad in preparation for the rugbyleague.com European Nations Cup and has since received two international caps and is gunning for his third and some Silverwear this weekend in Wales. The Scotland "A" captain is delighted to have been selected for the pro squad and came on as a devastating force against the Italians who came off second best as Scotland racked up a record breaking winning margin of 104 - 0.

"this has been my best season yet since starting to play rugby league. Captaining the 'A' team this summer was a great honour for me and I really grabbed it with both hands. But being called up to the big boys is the biggest honour you can get and I must say that being a part of a team representing Scotland means everything to me.
"

John received his 2nd cap for the Scotland team against Lebanon last Sunday (1st November) in the 2nd round of the European Nations cup in Glasgow:

"There's nothing I enjoy better than a big crowd, lots of support and having my friends and family there. Playing on T.V comes with playing at this level so I'm not really planning on letting that get to me.
I suppose all I really want to get out of this experience is being able to walk off the pitch pleased with my performance and pleased with what I've given to the team....oh and hopefully a win in the back pocket too!"

Scotland are now looking forward to battling the Welsh for European Cup glory this weekend (8th November) at the Brewery Field, Bridgend: Kick off 16:00 live on skysports
